The problem
The chalkboard is wrong by Wednesday and staff spend the evening answering the same questions
Monday's specials board was written up on Friday afternoon. By Wednesday two items have sold out, one price has changed, and the Thursday quiz night is not on it because nobody thought to add it. The board is technically visible from the bar but illegible from anywhere customers are actually sitting.
Your staff spend a shift answering "what's on tonight?", "is there food on?", "what time does the quiz start?", and "is the match on the big screen?" — all questions a well-placed screen could answer without anyone having to stop serving to respond.
And every time prices change, the printed menus are wrong and reprinting costs money and time. The cocktail specials card on each table was designed six months ago and three of the cocktails are no longer on. Meanwhile the upcoming bank holiday extended hours are pinned to a piece of A4 on the door that most customers walk straight past.
Why it matters
Information on screen drives spending and saves staff time
Specials that customers see actually get ordered
A daily special nobody knows about is a missed margin opportunity. A screen showing the kitchen's special of the day, visible from every seat in the pub, is a passive upsell that works all evening.
Sport info builds pre-match dwell time
Showing upcoming fixtures and kick-off times encourages fans to arrive earlier and plan their evening. A screen showing Saturday's fixture list on Thursday night is already selling Sunday's roast.
Events that are visible actually fill up
Quiz nights, live music, charity nights — if the only promotion is a flyer on the bar, you are leaving bookings on the table. A screen in eyeline of every seat is your best event promotion tool.
Staff spend less time answering and more time serving
Every question answered by a screen is one fewer interruption to a member of staff mid-service. At peak hours, that adds up to a meaningfully faster bar operation.
The solution
Pub digital signage that your manager can update from their phone between services
NowBoard is pub digital signage software built for hospitality teams who need to update content quickly between a busy lunch and a busy evening. Plug a NowBoard Player into any screen in your pub via HDMI and it starts showing your content in 15 minutes.
The kitchen updates the specials board before service. The manager adds tonight's quiz details at 3pm. The bar team changes the happy hour pricing at 5pm. All from the app, all instantly on screen. No chalk. No reprinting. No asking someone in an office to make a change.
-
Plug in a NowBoard Player
An HDMI device that connects to any screen — above the bar, on the wall, at the entrance. Uses your pub wifi. About £139, or use an Android TV stick.
-
Set up your content
Food specials, tonight's sport, events, drinks offers. Use NowBoard's templates or build your own layout. Set your pub branding once and it applies everywhere.
-
Update in seconds, any time
Change a special, add an event, update the fixtures list. From your phone. Every screen connected to NowBoard updates immediately.
Use cases
Six ways pubs use NowBoard every day
Daily specials and food menu
The kitchen updates the specials from the app, the screen changes instantly
A NowBoard screen showing today's food specials and the main menu is the most reliable way to make sure customers know what is on — and to make sure what is on the screen is actually available. When the kitchen runs out of the fish, remove it from the board in 10 seconds. When the chef adds a late special at 7pm, it is on screen before the evening rush reaches it. No rewriting a chalkboard. No asking the bar team to announce it. No running out of a dish you forgot to 86 on the written menu.
Tonight's sport and fixtures
Fixtures, kick-off times, and which screen is showing which game
A NowBoard sports screen shows the week's key fixtures with dates, kick-off times, and if you have multiple screens, which screen is showing which match. Customers can plan when to arrive. Groups can reserve a spot by a specific screen. And you can start promoting Saturday's big game on Wednesday evening — building anticipation and pre-match bookings. Update the fixtures list weekly, set it as a background rotation, and it runs itself.
Events and quiz nights
Promote upcoming events to every customer in the pub, every night
Your Thursday quiz, Sunday live music, charity fundraiser, Halloween event — a NowBoard screen showing upcoming events is visible to every customer who walks in, rather than just the ones who happen to pick up the flyer on the bar. Set the event details, add a booking prompt ("Book at the bar — limited tables"), and schedule it to appear from now until the event date. After the event, it removes itself automatically. You do not have to remember to take it down.
Drinks specials and happy hour
A scheduled happy hour display that switches on and off without anyone touching a screen
Set your happy hour drinks offers to appear on screen automatically at 5pm and switch off at 7pm. Set your cocktail happy hour to run Thursday to Saturday. Set your Sunday Bloody Mary special to appear only on Sunday mornings. NowBoard's scheduling means your promotions are always current and always visible at the right time — without a member of staff having to remember to change a sign or turn a display on and off. Learn more about content scheduling.
Sunday roast and weekend menu
A weekend menu that appears automatically on Friday and disappears on Sunday night
Schedule your Sunday roast menu to run from Friday evening through Sunday service. Customers arriving on Friday see what is coming up at the weekend. Saturday lunch customers see the full Sunday roast options and can book. Sunday diners see the menu, the timings, and the booking prompt. Set it once, schedule the dates, and it runs every weekend without anyone having to remember to switch it on.
Multi-pub management
Manage screens across your entire estate from one dashboard
Running a small pub group, a tenancy estate, or a managed house portfolio? NowBoard lets a central team push content to every pub simultaneously — a bank holiday hours notice, a company-wide promotion, a new menu launch — while each site manages its own daily specials and events independently. Pub managers have access to their own site. Head office retains visibility across the whole estate. Learn more about multi-location management.
Why NowBoard
Why pubs choose NowBoard over traditional signage
Enterprise digital signage systems are designed for large managed estates with dedicated IT teams. Chalkboards are cheap but labour-intensive and inconsistent. NowBoard sits in between — professional, affordable, and simple enough for a bar manager to operate alone.
Works on screens already in your pub
Any TV with an HDMI port. Plug in a NowBoard Player and it is a digital sign. No replacing TVs. No new hardware beyond a £139 player.
Update from behind the bar
The manager can update any screen from their phone between serving customers. No going to a back office. No calling someone in an office to make a change.
Scheduled content runs itself
Happy hour, weekend menus, sport previews — set when they should appear and disappear. The screens manage themselves once you have set the schedule.
Multiple screens, one app
The bar screen, the kitchen specials board, the entrance display, the events board — manage all of them from one app. Each screen shows different content at the right times.
Works offline
Pub wifi is not always stable. NowBoard screens keep showing the last update if the connection drops and sync automatically when it returns. No blank screens mid-service.
From £10/Location/month

FAQ
Common questions about pub digital signage
Can I schedule different content for different days and times?
Yes. Set happy hour content to appear Monday to Friday 5–7pm and it switches on and off automatically. Set the Sunday roast menu to run all weekend. Set the Thursday quiz promotion to appear from Monday and disappear after Thursday night. It all switches without anyone having to touch a screen or remember to make a change.
What about the screens already showing Sky or TNT Sports?
NowBoard Player connects to its own HDMI input. When you want to show signage — specials, events, fixtures — switch the TV to the NowBoard input. When you want to show live sport, switch back to the Sky or TNT input. Most pub TVs have multiple HDMI ports, so the NowBoard player can stay connected permanently and you just switch inputs as needed.
Can different screens show different content?
Yes. The screen above the bar can show food specials. The screen near the entrance shows upcoming events. The screen in the games area shows sport fixtures. Each is a separate Location with its own content, all managed from the same app.
Is there a minimum contract?
No. NowBoard is month-to-month from £10 per Location per month. No setup fees, no annual commitment. Add extra locations or remove them whenever you need to.
Ready to replace the chalkboard and the A4 pinned to the door?
Your customers deserve to know what is on tonight without having to ask. Set up NowBoard before tonight's service and start showing information that actually drives orders.
